Frequently Asked Questions

It is only natural that you might be a little unsure whether this is the type of job that you would be suited to.  I'm sure you are wondering exactly how this might all work.  Would you be able to ask the right questions?  Would you feel awkward?  Would the client come back after the first visit?

All of these are natural concerns and I have developed this frequently asked questions section to try and set your mind at ease.

Being a life coach is not rocket science, in fact it is one of the most natural things you can do.  Once you have conducted a few sessions you will be amazed just how at ease you will become.  You will have all of the techniques at hand from the guide to get you going, but you will also very quickly begin to establish some of your own techniques.  You will quickly begin to realise what techniques work with what kind of people.  You'll very soon become a natural.  The guide explains that you might want to have a few practice sessions with friends and family first and then perhaps offer a few free sessions just to build your confidence.

Does the guide give me step by step instructions?
Not exactly.  The guide offers you various techniques and worksheets to run through that you can directly use in coaching sessions.  It gives advice on what you need to establish within the first session and it guides you through the overall process, but to walk you through step by step would not be appropriate.  Every client is different and it is important you tailor sessions to what your client wants to establish.  This is much easier than you might think.  Clients will often drive sessions themselves, all you need to do is be there to act as a prompt from time to time.

Surely I need a qualification?
No.  Qualifications are available widely on the internet for life coaching.  All involve having to go through courses costing upwards of $300.  Most of these qualifications are not worth the paper they are written on.  They are not gained by way of examination, they are gained by simply having read through the course material.  What sort of assurance does that provide?  It is most definitely not the case that someone with a qualification must be better trained.  Our guide covers all the material a $300 course covers and at a fraction of the price.

Where do I get clients from?
You can advertise locally, and in fact if you go for telephone coaching you do not even have to restrict it to your locality.  Leaflet deliveries is a very cheap way to begin.  Small ads is another way.  Word of mouth is however your biggest marketing tool.  Offer the first session free and I absolutely assure you that you will have very little trouble in attracting interest.  You see people simply love to talk about themselves.  You are allowing people the privilege to do that uninterrupted.  People will pay handsomely for that and if you offer a first session free you'll have a queue waiting to begin.  The other advantage of offering the first session free is that it gives you and the client an opportunity to size each other up and decide if you will be able to work together.

How much will all of this cost me?
You can get started with nothing more than the cost of the guide.  Some marketing will cost you money, but to begin with you can restrict your efforts to free marketing.  You've got no overheads by working initially from home and no travel costs either.
